Since we moved to Singapore, I’ve made it a point to scribble down memories and capture photos to post on my blog of our travels around southeast Asia and Australia. So far, I’ve done a pretty darn good job! (Yes, I am patting myself on the back) Unfortunately, I did leave out a pretty significant weekend. This time last year, we were well on our way to Pangkil Island in Indonesia.
One of our close friends, Abbe Hale, was turning the big 4-0, and wanted to celebrate in an extraordinary way, yet keep it low key. She definitely succeeded! A group of us infiltrated the remote island for two nights. We were the only folks camped out, and we had an absolute blast.
Water so calm; it looks like a lake…swoon
Remember the show, Lost? Yeah, that was us. No electronics and little electricity to light our “beach cabin” and bathroom hut. Thank goodness for the fans! They kept us cool and scared away the mozzies, even though we had to sleep under mosquito netting as well.
Entertainment was best served the old fashioned way! We went swimming, paddling, and hiking to our heart’s content.
First time on the board and LOVED it, especially due to the water. I was able to watch little fishies swim under and around my board.
We sat around bonfires on the beach and told stories until the wee hours. It was awesome! She had people there to love on her from Singapore and also fly in from her hometown in New Zealand.
We had been in Singapore a little over a year and had yet to experience such clear water. We were amazed! The Maldives and Philippines are great competition for the see-through water, but Pangkil was MUCH easier to get to. The picture below was deep enough to reach my mid-thigh!
45 minute ferry ride and three hour bus ride…pfft! If you’ve read my posts about the Maldives and Philippines, then you understand the mountains we moved to reach those islands. Whew! This was the first picture I took after we arrived, and I felt like I was a world away from Singapore…
If you are reading this and live in Singapore, I can’t beg you enough to put Pangkil or any of their sister sites (like Pulau Joyo) on your travel lists.
You won’t regret it! It’s so close, yet feels time zones away!!
Words can’t express how much fun we had and how honored we felt to be invited.
Quite the crew of love for Abbe Hale and the big 4-0!!
Abbe has three beautiful girls and a baby boy, but I just adore this picture with the middle miss from the trip 🙂
I had to highlight the grand weekend spent on Pangkil, because it came full circle last week! We were also fortunate to help her ring in another year atop Marina Bay Sands. Such a good group and fun time at Ce La Vi!
Ahh this view…never gets old. Never.
Happy birthday, dear friend! Thank you for letting us celebrate YOU the past two years!
